  It's been a while since there has been a session at IWMW on HTML. But HTML 5 does appear to be significantly different to previous generations of HTML. It also appears to provide new challenges, will a lack of support for older versions of browsers, for example. So should institutions be making use of HTML 5 and, if so, how should they ensure that users with legacy browsers can still access resources and services?

  While the use of social media tools is seen as another medium to communicate to our audience, many institutions are still in the dark as to how best to use these tools to support recruitment, build brand and reputation, and facilitate better internal communications. There are pockets of good practice out there, but also dismal failures due to the lack of understanding of how social media works.

  How should HEIs approach the use of social media such as Twitter and Facebook? What's the best way to develop guidelines and who should lead in developing this? How do we get senior management to understand the benefits of being in the social environment?

Are institutions updating to the 2.0 guidelines or sticking with 1.0? Or is accessibility unobtainable in current environment of flash, video, mobile access, user-supplied content, etc?

  I've been thinking a workshop to share ideas about blogging as an individual, as a web team and running an institutional blogs platform would be useful.

  Some initial ideas:

  * What platform - e.g. WordPress MU

  * How to motivate the team

  * What to write about

  * Building a community of HE blogs

  I'm sure there's other topics that would be interesting and I'm not sure if I'm the right person to run the session but it could be interesting.

  - remove comms from our network

  - remove hosting from Greater London

  The solution is to make use of a blend of social networks and to encourage reciprocal hosting arrangements between institutions.
