It's been a while since there has been a session at IWMW on HTML. But HTML 5 does appear to be significantly different to previous generations of HTML. It also appears to provide new challenges, will a lack of support for older versions of browsers, for example. So should institutions be making use of HTML 5 and, if so, how should they ensure that users with legacy browsers can still access resources and services?
How is the Mobile Web shaping up to deliver critical information, teaching and learning information?
What are the differences in deployment for Mobile Web content compared to Mobile native apps?
Do Iphone and Android Apps offer significantly more than HTML 5?
What are the privacy, data retention, freedom of information and support considerations for externally provided App services?

Many Universities accepted WCAG 1.0 as route to an accessibility standard that enabled them to meet SENDA or DDA compliance. Is WCAG 2.0 similarly accepted? Are institutions updating to the 2.0 guidelines or sticking with 1.0? Or is accessibility unobtainable in current environment of flash, video, mobile access, user-supplied content, etc?

Although the Semantic Web failed to live up to its initial hype, we are now seeing renewed interest in the potential of Linked Data. But what exactly is Linked Data? What can it be used for? What relevance does it have for those involved in managing institutional Web services? And what can lessons can we learn from previous enthusiasms for the Semantic Web?

We've been working on a new method of communication with our community when disaster strikes and all else fails.
The primary objectives are to:
- remove comms from our network
- remove hosting from Greater London
The solution is to make use of a blend of social networks and to encourage reciprocal hosting arrangements between institutions.
Is your institution thinking about this? Shouldn't you have a plan?
There are strategies with stylesheets that will give a better experience for users of mobile devices - this would be a session on how these strategies work and whether they help enough to be worth pursuing.
Websites, and online activities, as part of an integrated marketing and communications plan/strategy. How does the web fit into everything else that our institutions do? Is it still seen as the role of the Web Team or a channel that everyone has to consider and plan into their annual activities. Probably still the former . . .
Freedom of information act differences between Scotland and England - what it means for web teams. What information do we have to provide and what can we with-hold.
The approach to blended learning suggests that screencasts can be very helpful for some to absorb technical information. This session would explore our project to take up screencasting within the Computing Service and to produce guidelines that could be used elsewhere in the University.
I've never played it. IWMW might be a nice place to try it!
